Every year, more and more athletes take on obstacle races, true physical and mental challenges mixing mud, sweat, and good humor while enjoying the outdoors. Whether to push your limits, live a unique experience, or share a strong moment as a team, these races offer an extraordinary rugged terrain. Among the most popular in Quebec, we find the MudGirl, a race dedicated to women for the fight against breast cancer, the Spartan Race, a race where self-surpassing is the watchword, the Foam Fest, a race combining foam cannon, mud, inflatable games, and fun, perfect to reconnect with your inner child for a day and the Extreme race, a race full of challenges where teamwork is essential, perfect for pushing your limits and testing various aspects while having fun with the gang — each with its own universe, atmosphere, and specific challenges. To fully enjoy these adventures, proper equipment is essential. Here are the essentials to gear up well and give your best on the different courses.

Some shoess of Trail Lightweight running, snug and water-repellent socks. Models designed for trail running are perfect and offer better conditions: lugged outsole, enhanced stability, and materials that do not retain moisture, allowing for an ultra-light stride. Classic running shoes become heavy and slippery. A little tip, if you have trail shoes nearing the end of their lifespan, it's a great opportunity to honor them one last time.

3. Long and durable socks
Short socks leave the calves exposed to mud, scratches, and chafing. Long technical socks, compressive or not, help protect the skin and maintain good circulation throughout the course.
4. A practical sports bag for after the race
After the finish line of an extreme race like Mudgirl or Spartan Race, you are wet, dirty, and probably freezing, but oh so proud of what you have accomplished. You need to plan for a sports bag spacious and easy to clean containing warm change of clothes like a soft and fluffy sweatshirt and comfortable joggers, a towel, wipes, a water bottle, and a snack. Adding a waterproof bag or a garbage bag to carry dirty clothes is advised. And now, it's time to take out your dry socks and put them on your favorite sandals!
